Embracing Forbidden Love: Tagai Tarutin, Umai at 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Shamanism is one religious phenomenon centered on the shaman. Commonly practiced in northern Asia, one of the dedications of the shamans is to remain untouched or celibacy for its powers to be more effective. It is believed to heal someone who is sick, to talk to people from the other world, and often escort souls of the world from the other world.

Umai is a drama, romance, and action novel that delves into the story of a young woman who is a member of Shamankas and is residing in the vast land spanning from the Urals to the Pacific Ocean. Being a shaman, she has vowed completely herself to celibacy but a twist of fate happens when she meets a cowboy man from Wyoming.

For this year, the 2024 Los Angeles Festival of Books, in coordination with Bookmarc Alliance, Tagai Tarutin will participate in this event and share his book, Umai, with the audience this coming April 20 to 21, 2024 at the University of Southern California.
