In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Amann holds positions as an Executive Board Member and member of the Medical Leadership Board at One GI®. Furthermore, he serves as a staff gastroenterologist at the North Mississippi Medical Center and works as a consultant with Eli Lilly Co.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Dr. Amann graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree from Creighton University in 1985, followed by his Medical degree from the Creighton University School of Medicine in 1989.

Honing his skills and knowledge at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Amann performed his residency in internal medicine, assuming the role of Chief Resident and Instructor in the Department of Medicine from 1992 to 1993. Subsequently, he pursued his fellowship in gastroenterology at the said establishment from 1993 to 1996.

Dr. Amann’s career trajectory includes serving as a NASA medical support physician from 1992-1994 and holding positions at the University of Florida in the Department of Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology from 1996 to 1999. During that same period, he served as a staff physician of gastroenterology at Gainesville Veterans Administration Hospital. 

From 1999 to 2013, Dr. Amann held the role of Medical Director at the Center for Digestive Health, LLC, and later served as President at Digestive Health Specialist, PA from 2013 to 2021.

Board-certified in gastroenterology, Dr. Amann is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. He is also certified by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS).

Acknowledged as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), Dr. Amann holds roles as an ACG Institute Board Member serves on the Legislative and Public Policy Committee, and immediate past Chairman of the ACG Practice Management Committee. 

In addition, he actively participates in the North American Pancreatic Study Group, and the Mississippi Gastroenterology Society, where he previously served as President.

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Amann has contributed significantly to the advancement of medical knowledge, with the publication of numerous articles and book chapters regarding gastroenterology and pancreatic disease. Moreover, he has served as a reviewer for leading gastroenterology journals, further solidifying his impact.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Among Dr. Amann’s various awards and honors include the ACG Senior Governor Award (2019) for service to the association and members, the ACG Scopy Award (2016, 2017), the ACG Scopy Award, and Honorable Mention (2015). In 2018, he was presented with the Key to the City of Tupelo, Mississippi, in recognition of his efforts in Colon Cancer Awareness. He has spent several years with annual visits to Washington D.C. to visit with congressional teams to advocate for colon cancer screening and patient access to care. 

Additional accolades in his career include participation in the AGA/ASGE/ASLD sponsored Academic Skills Workshop for junior faculty in clinical and basic research in gastroenterology held in San Diego, California in 1998. Dr. Amann also received the American Digestive Health Foundation Travel Award to the International Symposium on Hereditary Pancreatitis in April 1997 and served as the Solvay Pancreatic Research Fellow at the University of Florida from 1994 to 1996.
