This collaborative effort brought together a diverse group of organizations committed to alleviating financial burdens for parents and caregivers, conducting non-invasive wellness checks for youth, and creating an unforgettable experience. Over 150 dresses and suits were generously given away to students from the local community, with inquiries pouring in from as far as Houston, TX.

Jacqueline Snell, the visionary behind JJE, founded the organization dedicated to uplifting youth and addressing social issues, mental health, and wellness initiatives. Inspired by personal hardships and influenced by the transformative power of programs like “Yes to the Dress,” Snell expanded the initiative to include young men, ensuring that all students could celebrate this milestone with dignity and joy, regardless of their circumstances.

Besides her role as the founder of JJE, Snell also spearheads the “WaterCooler Room,” an innovative year-round wellness center at McKinley School of Arts in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). Through this event, Snell aimed to provide a lifeline for caregivers and families in need, extending her commitment to empowering the community.

Sierra Subaru of Monrovia, known for its dedication to more than just building cars, expressed its excitement in supporting PUSD youth by providing prom dresses and suits through this collaborative effort.

The impact of the event was evident in the stories of the students it touched. Dominique Carpenter, a student at CIS Academy, tearfully expressed her gratitude, stating, “My grandmother is shaking her hands in glory because she doesn’t have to go to a dress shop to look for my dress. It’s already done. And she’s going to be happy that I’m happy.” Such moments of happiness and well-being were at the heart of the event’s mission.

The event also received unexpected support through monetary donations from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, (Pasadena Chapter), and the office of Congresswoman Judy Chu. Pasadena City Councilman Tyron Hampton, instrumental in connecting Sierra Subaru of Monrovia with a reliable source for purchasing suits, attended the event and was overjoyed by the turnout. “Young people are walking out with suits, dresses, ties, jewelry, etc., and everyone will be able to go to prom and enjoy themselves,” he shared.

The event’s success was further highlighted by the diverse population of students from surrounding areas and the local Pasadena school district. Snell emphasized that Jazzy Jam will continue to find unique ways to interact with students in a non-clinical manner, ensuring they have a safe space and support year-round.

Emily Trejo of Pasadena High School, who found a beautiful blue gown, expressed her appreciation, stating, “We’re so happy about this because we needed help with our outfit and shoes.”

Sierra Subaru of Monrovia, recognizing the significance of community connections, emphasized their commitment to positively impact the lives of young individuals beyond the road. Snell appreciates Subaru’s commitment as her work reflects the well-being of students beyond the classroom. This was demonstrated by a thoughtful gesture at the event, where students received a grab bag containing uplifting messages and self-care items to keep them motivated as they exited.

The Jazzy Jam Glam Prom Dress and Suit Giveaway succeeded in its mission to alleviate financial strain by providing free attire to those in need, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring that all students will have the opportunity to attend prom without the burden of expensive clothing.
