Vancouver medspa doctor says this Canadian ultrasound tool will make dermal filler treatments safer

(Isstories Editorial):- Vancouver, British Columbia Jun 15, 2023 (Issuewire.com) – Dr. Sachit Shah, director of Beautiful Canadian Laser and Skincare Clinic in Surrey B.C. (near Vancouver), says his newly acquired handheld ultrasound device will set apart his injectable services from other providers. How? By making treatments safer.

“This device allows me to see under the skin,” he explains. “So when a patient comes in and has had previous work done, I’m able to see their vascular structure and past dermal fillers. Then I can inject them with more precision.”

Dr. Shah says patients visit his office having had prior surgeries, which can change where arteries and veins are typically located.

Since vascular occlusions are a known potential side effect of getting dermal fillers, Dr. Shah believes ultrasound can be the answer to avoiding this dangerous complication.

“Of course, before ultrasound became so affordable, injectors had been safely administering dermal fillers for years,” explains Dr. Shah. “Particularly, skilled injectors can feel through the vascular structure using the cannula method, and avoid hitting those areas. But having a visual tool makes the job so much easier.”

He says some of his patients may have received dermal fillers from another doctor, but fail to remember where or what type of dermal fillers were injected. An ultrasound device can make their add-on filler treatments look more professional and symmetrical.

“Different types of dermal filler behave differently in the dermis. So by being able to determine what they’ve had injected before, I can make better decisions about how much, and what kind of top-up filler they need,” he says. “This avoids the ‘unnatural’ look, and on the safety side, it avoids side effects.”

He says he can also use ultrasound to find migrated filler, which can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if it is made of hyaluronic acid (HA).

He specifically chose the Clarius handheld ultrasound device because it integrated well with his clinic’s electronic medical records (EMR) system, and it was made in Canada.
