From Shadows to Spotlight: Rod McFain Revives a Forgotten Star in Unflinching Historical Novel

(Isstories Editorial):- Garden City, Idaho Aug 28, 2025 (Issuewire.com) – Author Rod McFain brings to life one of Hollywood’s most tragic and electrifying figures in his latest release, She’s Got It. With his hallmark blend of emotional grit and cinematic storytelling, McFain plunges readers into the raw, harrowing world of Clara Bow–the original “It Girl”–in a novel that’s both a searing portrait of early stardom and a stirring tribute to survival against all odds.

A Forgotten Icon, A Novel That Won’t Let Her Be Overlooked

She’s Got It opens in the blistering summer of 1905, New York, where Clara Bow is born into chaos: a family fractured by mental illness, addiction, and violence. Through prose as unflinching as it is lyrical, McFain traces Clara’s rise from a Brooklyn tenement to the silver screens of Hollywood, refusing to flinch from the brutal truths behind the glamour.

More on Isstories:

McFain’s Clara is no myth–she’s flesh, fury, fire. The novel captures every jagged edge of her childhood abuse, her brushes with madness and death, and her defiant drive to be seen, not just as a face on a movie poster, but as a person who mattered. From her harsh beginnings to the frenzy of fanfare that would both crown and consume her, McFain builds Clara’s world brick by aching brick.

For the Dreamers, the Damaged, and the Determined

While She’s Got It chronicles the early days of cinema, it pulses with urgency and modern relevance. McFain writes with a compassion that refuses pity and a toughness that refuses nostalgia. Clara’s voice–plucky, bruised, undefeated–echoes off every page. Whether she’s scrapping on a Brooklyn street corner or standing under the studio lights in borrowed chiffon, Clara represents every young woman told to sit down, quiet down, and be grateful for crumbs.

“She wasn’t born for Hollywood,” McFain says. “Hollywood was born for her–and then it tried to eat her alive.”

In She’s Got It, readers find more than historical fiction. They find a firebrand heroine, a century-old reckoning with trauma, and a love letter to every underdog who ever dared to want more.
