Miss Murica Releases “Dear Mister President” an Anti-Sexual Assault Anthem and Rallying Cry

(Isstories Editorial):- Los Angeles, Jul 4, 2018 (Issuewire.com) – Dear Mister President a new anti-sexual violence anthem released by singer/songwriter Jojo the Artist premieres under her pseudonym, Miss Murica today on YouTube:  The original song and video call awareness to survivors of sexual assault and advocates the #MeToo movement while opposing Trump.

In the video, Miss Murica shaves her head wearing only American flag body paint and walks the streets of LA, holding signs like, Free Melania in criticism of President Trump and his casual sexually predatory comments like, grab them by the pussy. With the chorus lyrics, Cause youre greasy. Just plain sleazy Miss Murica denounces Trumps demeanour toward women.

As a personal survivor of a recent sexual assault, the shock of the experience devastated me. With the continuous degradation of women by our current president, it felt like a kick in the teeth, as though sexual violence is not only condoned but encouraged by the leader of our country. The raw pain of my experience led me to seek support from fellow survivors and I admire the bravery of the #MeToo movement. I was inspired to put pen to paper and wrote ‘Dear Mister President.’ Channelling my pain and anger not only from my experience but from Trumps words and behaviour evolved into the music and finally the video. It was a cathartic exercise to release my emotions and show support to all the other survivors out there. Said Jojo the Artist aka Miss Murica.

More on Isstories:

Jojo actually dyed and shaved her head as part of the experience. It was a truly freeing experience, part of recapturing my independence and creative courage but it also left me feeling vulnerable and exposed. I had to move past those feelings to bring my vision to life, and that in and of itself felt like a victory, commented the Artist. You can see her process making the video here

According to RAINN, an American is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds and 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed, 2.8% attempted). RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization.  Visit RAINN.org for more information and resources regarding sexual violence.

About Jojo the Artist aka Miss Murica

Jojo the Artist began her musical career in New York City after graduating from medical school. I grew up in a religious Midwestern family that valued financial stability. Discovering my love for writing and singing songs was magical. It gave me a platform to express the feelings I had, growing up in an abusive home and experiencing having a mom killed by law enforcement.

After losing her voice due to a medical condition, Jojo found comedy and filmmaking as a creative outlet and headed to Los Angeles. While making movies, her singing voice eventually healed and she now combines her artistic talents in the project, Dear Mister President, as writer, singer, actor and director. Originally I had someone else directing. When I realized how personal the song is, I decided to see if I could find a way to be a voice for not only fellow survivors of sexual assault but also Americans as a whole.
