More on Isstories:

Sweeney is a highly accomplished American entrepreneur, investor and private equity advisor involved in an array of high-tech ventures.

Sweeney’s early career was formed by engagements with entrepreneurs who inspired his founding of ServerVault, the first secure cloud hosting provider. Expanding on his expertise in data technology, he helped create the Electronic Product Code standard, an advanced successor to standard barcode technology. He created a dozen patents in new technology to create ODIN Technologies.  The company rapidly became dominant in RFID (radio frequency identification) technology completing over 500 RFID projects. ODIN won the U.S. Department of Defense contract which was the DoD’s largest RFID contract ever. Sweeney’s involvement in RFID resulted in authoring two books on the subject for RFID users.

Sweeney subsequently went on to create five companies and has been involved in an array of technology-driven concerns and is currently an advisor to Rialto Venture, Redalpine Ventures and Milemarke Venture,  venture capital and private equity firms based in Milano, Italy, Zurich Switzerland and Cambridge, Massachusetts.   Additionally, Mr. Sweeney has participated as an angel investor in more than 60 companies including Y-Combinator, Virta Health, ShipBob, Rappi, among others, to provide guidance and critical seed money to promising upstarts.

Mr. Sweeney was a pioneer in the development of the so-called BOODA Doctrine, a decision-making and leadership framework that explains how belief shapes what leaders see, how they interpret reality, and how fast they act. By placing belief in front of the traditional OODA loop, BOODA shows how conviction drives clarity, speed, and execution, especially in high-uncertainty, high-growth environments. This doctrine positively shapes Sweeney’s investment philosophy. The foundation of Sweeney’s risk-taking and courageous investing was anchored in his previous book, Fear is Fuel: The Surprising Power to Find Purpose and Performance.  The book, which hit #5 on the Wall Street Journal’s best-seller list, focuses on harnessing and overcoming fears to achieve success in life.  Sweeney’s investments have been driven by the BOODA Doctrine, a system he has used in his own companies and dozens of venture-backed successes over the past 20 years.

A Renaissance man, by all measures, Mr. Sweeney is a commercially rated pilot, the author of three books on technology, an Olympic level athlete, and a climate-change activist. As a seasoned executive, he has been a CEO five times and has served on the boards of many companies and Universities, bringing his unique brand of business strategy to help guide corporate decision-making.

Tying his 25-years experience with practical application of his BOODA Doctrine, Mr. Sweeney has written a fourth book, The Founder’s Creed, that is tailored to founders and entrepreneurs seeking to hyper-grow their companies in new and systematic ways. The book will be available in March 2026.
