A vital, long-overdue revelation concerning the nation’s well-being and confidence requires immediate attention and rectification. This exposé involves Mr. Peter Chan, a dedicated, Singapore-born foreign national.
Despite his selfless contributions to Malaysia’s property and tourism sectors over a quarter-century, he’s met with a decade of inexplicable complaints, unjust accusations, legal struggles, and a vicious campaign of persecution. The headline’s phrase “Unjust Persecution of Innocent Contributor” was used after weeks of studying all documents and findings.
Chan’s life here is one of dedication and creativity, aimed at community betterment. Working 12-to-14-hour days, he devoted his life to service, seeking no personal benefit or public recognition. An innocent, unblemished man who is now subjected to vicious and unrelenting persecution.
Chan’s career began in Ipoh, where he rescued a troubled low-cost housing project, transforming it into the nation’s most exemplary low-cost development, renamed Permai Lake View Apartments. The 576 units set a high standard: 732 square feet (net area), three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Chan ensured superior features: fully tiled floors, tinted sliding windows, quality Lafarge roofing, high cemented ceilings, dedicated AC space, ample car parks, and 24-hour security. This is undisputedly the best low-cost housing in Malaysia. Following this, Chan delivered Subang Galaxy, 175 terrace houses that were the best value proposition in Subang II.
His most challenging assignment was The Haven. Chan was the catalyst for building luxury high-rises, significantly upgrading Ipoh’s image and reviving investor confidence. He overcame major obstacles: prejudice against condominium living, negative location perception, and the stigma that Ipoh was a stagnant town.
Chan was absolute: “We’ll succeed. We will make the locality popular.” His marketing began with the ingenious food book, “Eatpoh,” recommending 150 local eateries. Aggressive promotional campaigns were launched in over 15 overseas locations to kick-start sales. The Haven successfully changed the mindset of Ipoh. The Haven has been the subject of more than 200+ flattering articles and garnered 66 local and international awards.
Recognitions include the FIABCI for High Rise (presented by the current Agong); the Minister’s Award; Global Winner of Luxury Family All-Inclusive Hotel; Asia’s Best Resort Residences; and the Quality & Innovation (Gold)–International Arch of Europe Award. President Jose E. Prieto famously captioned Chan: “Ipad, Iphone…Steve Jobs. Icon, Ipoh…Peter’s Job.”.
For sustainable success, Chan introduced the Branded Hotel-Home hybrid 5-star development concept. He secured approval for 150 units to be leased centrally as managed hotel units. “This was highly fruitful, attracting 150,000+ foreign tourists from over 120 countries, which directly benefitted the state greatly,” affirmed Mr. Chan. The Haven attracted TUI Blue, Germany’s largest tour operator, for its first project in both Malaysia and Singapore.
Extraordinary Generosity Meets Unjust Retribution
Chan’s nature is to serve, viewing his calling as selfless giving and providing his absolute best. This is demonstrated by the staggering contribution of over RM 36 million in improvements and facility additions to The Haven, all voluntarily given over and above the contracted Sale and Purchase Agreement. These additions, accorded free of charge, included increased Clubhouse size, fibre optic connectivity, and crucial JMB management assistance. He also directed the Developer to contribute a 1.6-acre parcel of land and included costly hotel management, free of charge.
Despite this, a small group of unconscionable parcel owners have relentlessly lodged complaints and legal cases. Motivated by private motives, they appear determined to bring down Chan and The Haven. They adopted a devastating “scatter gun” approach, with one single owner in the group making over 750 written complaints, all considered purportless and frivolous.
The Bizarre Tribunal Decisions Expose Intrigue
Alarmingly, two key cases concerning identical issues–one against the JMB, the other primarily against the developer–resulted in the shocking finding that the litigants succeeded in both. Based on the two separate orders, BOTH the JMB and the Developer were ordered to “repay” expenditure for the tennis court and the land premium of the additional contributed land.
These orders are manifestly unsustainable. If upheld, the JMB would be TWICE ENRICHED, receiving double payments for both the tennis court and the premium for the donated land, despite receiving both valuable assets FOR FREE. THAT IS BIZARRE AND A MOCKERY AND MAY EXPOSE SOME HIDDEN AND IMPROPER CONDUCT!
It is legally untenable for the differing defendants to be ordered to “repay” expenditures for assets they never received; the sole beneficiary of both assets is the JMB itself. It is doubly bizarre that the developer and its associated stakeholders had been ordered to pay for assets that they had no benefit from whatsoever.
Also, that these two decisions were made ignoring the overwhelming votes of approval granted for their payments at the legitimately and properly conducted relevant Annual General Meetings is deeply concerning. Both cases are currently at their respective appeals, where it is anticipated these flawed decisions will be corrected. Besides the above cases, the developer has also been unjustifiably taken to task on numerous other unreasonable and unjustifiable claims, all of them equally bizarre.
A Threat to National Progress
It is inexplicable that an innocent man, who has selflessly contributed so much, can be persecuted so viciously and unrelentingly. These actions suggest a hidden, hideous plan to destroy his reputation, project, or him personally. Mr. Chan has already endured over a decade of senseless and unjust claims and accusations. The sinister intentions behind this persecution must be uncovered and rectified expeditiously.
We cannot allow the unjust manoeuvres of hidden individuals to affect the reputation and well-being of the country. The inhibition of justice curtails and subdues the growth and progress of the country. In the fundamental interest of the nation, this persecution must cease immediately.
“I am most confident that all the false and malicious accusations will be wholly demolished, as I have not done one iota of wrong. I am here to tell my critics that I will not give up, whatever the apparent setbacks. I want to achieve! I will work with my fellow Ipoh stakeholders to see Ipoh boom and to continue our contribution to this lovely nation!” said Chan.
