Leading the charge is David Almeida, returning to competition after capturing Gold at the Jiu Jitsu World League New Jersey Open in 2024. Almeida will compete in both the 154 lb No-Gi division and Gi division, where he looks to continue his dominant run.
Joining him is Shawn Cartajena, who earned Gold at the Jiu Jitsu World League New Jersey Open in 2024. Cartajena will compete in the 222 lb division, bringing his trademark power and precision back to the mats.
Renzo Gracie Newark continues to be recognized as a force in the competitive jiu-jitsu landscape, having won the 2023 Adults Season Atlantic Team Title. Under the guidance of Coach and Owner Matheus Batista, the academy has cultivated a new generation of top-tier athletes. Batista himself was a Pan American Champion at both Blue and Purple Belt and received his Black Belt in August 2022, marking him as one of the region’s most respected instructors and competitors.
Founded on the timeless principles of discipline, respect, and excellence, Renzo Gracie Newark has built a rich legacy of producing high-caliber jiu-jitsu practitioners and champions. As one of the earliest Renzo Gracie academies in New Jersey, its tradition of competitive success and community impact continues to thrive.
