As an Assistant Professor in the Nursing – Baccalaureate program at the NMU School of Nursing, Dr. Bergner exemplifies the values of excellence and compassion in healthcare education.

Dr. Bergner earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from the University of Toronto in 1987 and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at NMU in 2022. Her doctoral project, titled “Effects of Evidence-Based Discharge Instructions on Follow-Up with a Healthcare Provider in Patients Presenting with mTBI-Like Symptoms,” demonstrated the importance of structured discharge communication. The study revealed that 82% of patients followed up within two weeks, while 27% reported ongoing symptoms after four weeks, highlighting the need for improved evidence-based follow-up protocols.

In the upcoming Fall 2025 semester, Dr. Bergner will teach several courses, including NU 212 (Foundations/Professional Nursing Practice), NU 302, and NU 432, furthering her dedication to nurturing future nursing professionals. Additionally, she is scheduled to teach in Spring 2026, continuing to inspire her students with evidence-informed clinical practices.
