On July 19, 25 athletes from Shincheonji competed in the individual recognized poomsae division. Despite a limited preparation window, each athlete delivered inspired performances through disciplined training and unwavering focus. Their collective effort resulted in an outstanding tally of 4 gold, 7 silver, and 14 bronze medals, ensuring every single team member stood on the podium
Gold medalist Lee Jun-wi shared his thoughts:
“Though training time was limited, I did my best to focus within the time given. I’m grateful that my efforts led to such a great outcome.”
Team coach Kim Deok-hun remarked:
“This was a high-level competition featuring outstanding athletes from both Korea and abroad. I’m proud that our athletes delivered their best without faltering. Building on this experience, we plan to train systematically and strategically so that even more athletes can compete next year with improved skills.”
The Shincheonji Taekwondo team also saw tremendous success earlier this month at the 2025 Kim Un-Yong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships held in Busan, where all 12 participating members medaled — 2 took first place, 4 second place, and 5 third place — marking back-to-back full-team wins at international competitions.
The team’s recent accolades build on solid past achievements. At the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang, 5 out of 18 athletes earned awards in competitive categories like front kick and power breaking–underscoring Shincheonji’s continuous excellence and robust program structure.
Shincheonji’s sustained success in both domestic and international arenas reflects not only athletic talent but also the organization’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and community wellness. By excelling in Korea–Taekwondo’s birthplace–and on global platforms, the team contributes meaningfully to enhancing Korea’s martial arts reputation and cultural outreach.
Bolstered by these victories, Shincheonji Church plans to further its commitment to nurturing athletic talent, advancing holistic physical health, and integrating sports into community life. With strategic planning and expanding participation, the Taekwondo team is set to elevate its presence and impact in upcoming competitions.
In summary the Shincheonji Church Taekwondo Team continues to exemplify excellence, discipline, and spiritual strength. Their impressive medal record and cultural impact mark them as a shining example of faith-driven athletic achievement–well poised for future success on the international stage.
