A Comprehensive Collection
This extensive edition includes Satie’s most celebrated masterpieces: the Trois Gymnopédies, nine Gnossiennes, Pièces froides, Nouvelles pièces froides, Enfantines, Pièces humoristiques, Sports et divertissements, the Nocturnes, and much more.
The collection also unveils lesser-known compositions, such as a transcription of the Messe des pauvres and newly completed pieces by Simonetto, derived from original manuscripts and historical documents. Among these are the unveiling of the Fuga in C, the first-ever recording of Chanson hongroise, the remarkable original version of Pièce froide, and the succinct Bribes.
Adding to this homage, Simonetto has composed 24 Variations on the Leitmotiv du Panthée by Satie. Thematic albums in the series include works like Le fils des Étoiles and Uspud. Rare piano transcriptions, such as Jack-in-the-Box, Le poisson rêveur, Le b”uf Angora, and all the Valses, are masterfully interpreted by Italian-Iranian pianist Alessandro Deljavan, whose prestigious artistry shines throughout the project. Notably, Deljavan’s recording of the enigmatic Vexations features a remarkable 840+1 repetitions, executed over 18 hours of extraordinary focus and endurance.
A Pandemic-Era Achievement
Initiated in 2020 during the global pandemic, this project is characterized by its strict adherence to Satie’s original scores, faithfully preserved and transmitted to Robert Caby before Satie’s passing.
The recordings were meticulously captured in high-definition audio (88.2 kHz, 24-bit) using Steinway D-274 pianos, including a historic instrument personally chosen by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
Historical Insights and Additional Releases
A dedicated Facebook group offers an interactive biography of Satie, curated by historian Robert Malone. The project will expand in 2025 with the release of Satie’s works for four hands, performed by the award-winning Duo Degas, featuring Gala Chistiakova and Diego Benocci. Future releases will also include ballet and film music, acknowledging Satie’s pioneering role as the first composer of a film score with René Clair’s Entr’acte.
