(Isstories Editorial):- Chicago, Illinois Apr 14, 2025 (Issuewire.com) – After more than three decades in law enforcement–including years as a detective and Captain in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division–Greg Heist is turning his badge into a pen. His debut novel, The Silo, is a gripping psychological thriller set in the rural Midwest, blending authentic police work with dark family secrets.
A graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, Heist brings firsthand knowledge to the page. The Silo follows Detective Frank Braun, a Vietnam vet and retiring officer, as he interrogates Jacob Weaver–a young man facing life in prison under the three strikes law. But the case isn’t as straightforward as it seems. As the interrogation unfolds, long-buried traumas and dangerous truths rise to the surface–culminating in a final confrontation at the Weaver family farm and its ominous, long-abandoned silo.
“One of the best police procedural novels we’ve read all year,” says the WYWR Podcast. Medium calls the book “a must-read for fans of suspenseful, thought-provoking mysteries.”

Much of Heist’s inspiration for the novel came from real-life cases he investigated over the years. From dramatic multi-state manhunts to bizarre crime scene discoveries (including a house-burgling deer), Heist’s storytelling offers a rare glimpse inside the mind of a seasoned investigator.
Now retired and living outside Chicago, Heist is already at work on his next novel.
The Silo is available in paperback and eBook formats through major retailers.
