From the recent report, it is coming to know that Trump’s administration has paused all the green card applications, including Indian immigrants. According to the statement of US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), it is coming to know that have paused the process due some kind of adjustment. Donald Trump has given the order for it, and that is why the initiative has been taken.

AzadehErfan, the National Immigrant Justice Center Director of Policy has said ‘This sweeping and indefinite stop on green card processing is yet another attempt for this administration to baselessly paint all immigrants as a national security risk’. The government of the United States has taken this action to have control over illegal immigration. With the help of strategy, the government is trying to detect any people who are illegal immigrants to the States before giving a green card.

Along with this, they are also willing to go through with criminal records. United States does not want to keep any immigrant who has any kind of criminal record. As of now, it cannot be said how long the process might take. However, thousands of applicants need to wait for an uncertain amount of time to get their green cards. The president has said that they will immediately deport all the people who have criminal records.

In this whole scenario, Indian immigrants have become a little more worried. According to the data of 2023, more than 2.9 million Indian people are living in the States as immigrants. If anything goes wrong, then their life will be impacted severely. From the year 1960, the number of Indian immigrants has increased at a rapid pace. During the time of 2020 to 2023, immigrants from India have increased the more. They do not know whether they will even get to live in the US or not in the future.

The director of the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative, Laura Collins has said ‘There’s a certain amount of documentation you have to provide as a refugee as well as an asylee. All of these people who are approved for resettlement or to remain in the United States, that’s because the United States government already approved them to be here’.

Many confusions are there regarding its documentation as well. As per Collins’ statement, it is coming to be known that in the very first administration of Trump, the USCIS were instructed to check whether the forms were filled in correctly or not. It also says ‘So if you didn’t have a middle name … they would send your application back and say, ‘Well, you didn’t fill in your middle name portion’’. The USCIS can also check social media accounts for further verification, which is making things even difficult for everyone.

Laura Collinsalso said, ‘things they probably already vet, but asking for another set of eyes or a slightly longer look at it’. Thus, no one can clearly say who will get a United States’ green card or not, which is quite terrifying.
