Yupei Supply Chain Management Group Becomes First Listed Chinese Supply Chain Company to Commit to 100% Cage-Free Eggs

(Isstories Editorial):- Shanghai, China Mar 23, 2025 (Issuewire.com) – Leading Chinese cold chain logistics operator Yupei Supply Chain Management Group announced last week its latest ESG goal of shifting to 100% procurement of cage-free eggs by 2030 or earlier. The new policy goal covers its bulk procurement and distribution for both B2B and B2C markets and will be carried out alongside egg traceability upgrades in its food production and OEM factories in response to the growing market emphasis on animal welfare. Yupei International is the first large logistics group in China to set ESG directions concerning animal welfare. Its new goal of 100% procurement of cage-free eggs marks an important step toward enhancing food safety and animal welfare.

Yupei is one of China’s leading smart cold chain integrated service operators, with a cold chain logistics network encompassing over 100 warehouses, 600 major transportation routes, and 1,800 distribution centers. The company operates 50 cold chain parks nationwide, 20 fresh produce and prepared food processing centers, and collaborates with thousands of OEM factories. Leveraging its robust logistics network, the company’s commitment to procure and distribute only cage-free eggs by 2030 will significantly impact the industry, fostering a more sustainable future for the food sector.

“We adhere to our core values of ‘people-oriented, pursuing excellence, open innovation, and mutual prosperity’,” said Li Shifa, CEO of Yupei Supply Chain Management Group. “Our goal of achieving 100% procurement of cage-free eggs by 2030 or earlier reflects our commitment to actively fulfilling our social responsibilities. By ensuring that all our products meet higher food safety and animal welfare standards, we aim to provide our customers with a healthier and more sustainable supply chain.”

“We applaud Yupei Supply Chain Management Group for becoming the first logistics service operator in China to set an animal welfare policy,” said Bing Lam, Sustainability Program Lead at Shanghai-based consultancy Lever China, which worked with the company on its new policy. “This commitment highlights Yupai’s emphasis on advancing sustainability and animal welfare while providing optimized sourcing solutions for companies with similar cage-free egg sourcing policies.”

Cage-free egg production allows hens to roam freely in open indoor environments, promoting better animal welfare and food quality and improving food safety. Research conducted by the European Food Safety Authority has found that cage-free farms have up to a 25 times lower risk of contamination by key salmonella strains. Many consumers have also been leaving eggs off their plates as the best way to protect laying hens.
