Rev up for laughs, music, and romance–Dirt Track Honeymoon is now available to stream for free on YouTube. This action-comedy short film combines Southern charm, romance, and raucous humor with a high-energy soundtrack and unforgettable characters. Created as a proof-of-concept for an upcoming feature-length film, Dirt Track Honeymoon offers a glimpse into a world where love, laughter, music, and racing collide.
The short was directed by Brendan Davis, executive produced by Stan Ruszkowski for Ruszkowski Entertainment, and produced by Seth Slick, Jordan Brown, and Jason Dolan. Featuring a cast led by Drew Waters (as Clayton), Coby Connell (as Caroline), Jonathan Ludwikowski (as Daryl), Artemis (as Cassie), Mabel Thomas (as Mary Lou), and Emily Topper (as Jenny), the story blends quirky comedy and energetic music with heartfelt romantic moments. Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, in October 2024, it also features a vibrant music video for the title song, written by Davis.
A Vision from Script to Screen
“Seeing a short version of what I originally envisioned in my head now on the screen is something I’m incredibly proud of,” says Stan Ruszkowski, the film’s executive producer and co-writer. “Brendan and I spent two years developing the feature script, and once we decided to create a short film version, he and Seth brought together an incredible team. Creating this short is a great first step toward the feature film, and I’m excited for what’s next.”
Behind the Scenes with the Director
For director, co-writer, and composer Brendan Davis, the project was a perfect opportunity to combine his filmmaking and musical passions. “Making Dirt Track Honeymoon was an absolute blast,” Davis says. “Stan gave me the opportunity to direct the feature version, and when he and Seth proposed doing this short as a proof-of-concept, I jumped at the chance. With Seth as the lead producer, I was able to focus on directing, which is my favorite part of the process.”
Davis also wrote the title track, a pop-country anthem that he describes as “the heartbeat of the film.” He recorded guitars, bass, and keyboards at his home in Paris, created guide vocals, and programmed drums, then collaborated with Alex Buhlig on production. Buhlig went into the studio in Atlanta with Indigo Wylde on vocals and Ricky Shenkmen on drums to replace Davis’ temp parts. “Alex, Indigo, and Ricky really elevated this song beyond what I could have imagined,” Davis adds. “Their talent and contributions made the music something I’m really proud of.”
Producer Insights
Producer and co-writer Seth Slick credits the film’s success to teamwork. “This project intrigued me from the start,” Slick says. “The unique blend of story and music felt special, and I knew we needed the right team to make it shine. Jordan Brown, my longtime colleague, was essential in bringing together the cast and crew, and Alex Buhlig’s experience in both music and film was invaluable. What we’ve created here is something we’re all really proud of, and it’s just the beginning.”
Visual Excellence
The film’s striking visuals were brought to life by Naeem Seirafi, the director of photography. “This was my second collaboration with Brendan as DP and director, and our shared vision made the creative process seamless,” Seirafi says. “We used Arri Master Anamorphic lenses to create a cinematic yet grounded look, and the entire Atlanta crew brought an incredible level of passion and professionalism to the shoot. Collaborating with the amazing Walter Volpatto on the color grade was the perfect finishing touch.”
Looking Ahead
Dirt Track Honeymoon is more than just a short–it’s a stepping stone toward a full-length feature film slated for production in 2025. The feature will expand on the short’s humor, music, and romance while adding large-scale dirt track race action. “This short is just the beginning of something much bigger,” says Ruszkowski.
