Sadly, this period of joy was short-lived. The COVID-19 pandemic and strikes led to a decline in Adam’s work opportunities as many of the businesses he relied on for pickups and deliveries were forced to close. In response, Adam turned to freelancing, and for a brief period, things seemed promising once again. However, this glimmer of hope soon faded as his workload grew increasingly demanding, requiring him to work exhausting 22-hour days, seven days a week. Even with this immense effort, it became clear that the money earned was barely enough to cover the escalating expenses of daily life.
As Adam’s work began to dwindle, his bills started to pile up, leaving him in a precarious financial situation. The rising costs of living coupled with unforeseen circumstances left him unable to make timely payments on his home. To make matters worse, the insurance company that covered his house demanded a roof replacement by July of this year, which he cannot afford. Failure to comply would result in a breach of contract, and Adam and his children would be left without insurance protection.
