Sunshine Rebuilt Partners with the Florida Department of Highway Safety – Motor Vehicles

The Private Rebuilt Vehicle Inspection Program (PRVIP) was piloted in 2013 in Miami-Dade County. Based on favorable results, the FLHSMV expanded the program in October 2022, and recommended that Hillsborough County be authorized in statute to offer DMV-certified rebuilt inspections.

Before the passing of this law, dealerships were forced to drive to Miami to conduct inspections, or wait several weeks for an appointment with their local DMV. These additional expenses were passed onto consumers, leading to higher used car prices and fewer sales as a result. This law will keep local dollars in the local economy, as car dealers, gas stations, body shops, and local tag agencies all benefit from launching Tampa Bay’s very own rebuilt inspection infrastructure. Everyone wins with this private-public partnership.

According to the Florida Senate impact report of 2022, “Expanding the PRVIP to … Hillsborough, … [county] may have a positive indeterminate impact on business opportunities for residents in those counties, and simultaneously it may have a negative indeterminate impact on PRVIP operators in Miami-Dade County as vehicles may be inspected at locations in counties closer the registered owner’s location.”

Sunshine Rebuilt is celebrating its grand opening on March 31st at 10 am with the ribbon cutting at 11 am.
