The exemplary six yards of Indian culture has entered the international phenomenon. Whether you are dressing up for your office party or attending your friend’s wedding, you can look really attractive and graceful. Even actresses of Bollywood and Hollywood are opting for the conventional way of draping a saree. Fashion designers from various corners are coming up with new ethnic and trendy styles that are bold and beautiful. If you want to grab eyeballs, you must take inspiration from the following ways of wearing a saree:
Belt It
Wear your saree in the most normal traditional way and add a belt that keeps the pallu at the waist intact. You can also opt for kamarbandh to make it look traditional. A statement off shoulder blouse will definitely add some spark to your outfit. Junk jewellery will complete the look and make it trendy.
Dhoti Effect
Try this innovative style the next time you attend any wedding. Just that you have to sport leggings instead of a petticoat for better draping effect.
The style can be a bit tricky. Just hold the top corner and begin to pleat the six yard. Pleat through little less than about half a length of your saree. Once this is done, use a pin to secure the pleats. The rest of the fabric should come out from under the pleats on the left.
Tuck the pleat into your waist pant at the centre. Keep tucking the saree into your waist pant from left to right behind you until you reach your spine. Now go for the other end of your saree, the pallu part and pleat it and pin it if you like. Then place it on your shoulder adjusting the length simultaneously creating a drape at your right end.
Traditional Bengali Drape
If you are going for a grand Bengali occasion, this draping style will make heads turn. Let’s start by tucking the saree from the right-hand side of the waist and until it completes one full round back to the right. Then tuck the saree across the right side of the waist to the left side and then the reverse from left to right.
Repeat the step two times. Now make the pleats and place the pallu on the left shoulder and place it the way you want. Then take the pallu corner and tie the pallu corner with a trinket. Bring the pallu corner to the front under the right hand and place it on the right shoulder. To add a subtle charm to your attire, you can wear chandbali, bindi and bangles.
Butterfly Saree Wrap
Begin by the saree under the petticoat starting from the right. Pleat the end of the saree. Pin the pleats together to secure it properly.
Take it around your body. Decide the length of the pallu and adjust accordingly. Drape the pallu over the left shoulder. Then secure it with a pin and adjust the pleats. Secure the pleats using any pin under the first fold. Bring the excess fabric from the back to the front, make sure it’s taut. Now tuck it into the petticoat. Create small pleats using all the extra fabric.
Make sure that the pleats are neat and clear. With a safety pin, secure the pleats and tuck it. Again secure the pleats at this point. Now remove the extra pins that have been used to hold the folds in place. The final look is ready. To add more style to it, wear striking jewellery with a statement bag.
